Maria da Graça Pereira Alves did her PhD at Florida State University (FSU) in the field of Family Systems Medicine and the Practice of Medical Family Therapy Practice and the Aggregation in Medicine, at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, in the area of Clinical Research and Health Services.
She was coordintor of the PhD in Health Psychology and the Masters in Health Psychology at the University of Minho. She was an invited professor at Florida State University (USA), Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing, University of São Paulo (Brazil); Nursing School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil); the Federal University School of Nursing of Sao Joao del Rei (Brazil) and in the Faculty of Psychology at Kazimierz Wieki University (Poland).
Her academic career focuses on the psychosocial impact of chronic disease on patients, family members, and caregivers; on the clinical
and physiological impact of stress and trauma in patients /populations at risk and their families; on individual and family health promotion, particularly healthy lifestyles; and on integrated health care delivery services, in order to promote wellbeing and quality of life in patients, families, and caregivers.
Maria da Graça Pereira Alves is currently responsible for the Health Psychology Consultation (Subunity of Clinicial and Health Psychology), in the Association of Psychology (APsi), at the University of Minho, coordinator of the Health, Wellbeing and Performance Research Lab, at the Psychology Research Centre (CIPsi), and responsible for the Research Group in Family and Health.
