Bárbara Figueiredo is Associate Professor with Aggregation at the School of Psychology, University of Minho, where she coordinates the Family and Human Development research group and supervises the Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology outpatient unit of the Psychology Association. She is currently Invited Professor at the University of Valencia (Spain) and University of Miami School of Medicine (USA), Associate Editor of the Psychology: Research and Review (Springer) and member of the Editorial Board of the Infant Behavior and Development (Elsevier), and evaluator of academic committees and research projects in numerous Universities and agencies, namely from the European Commission.
With a PhD and Aggregation in Clinical Psychology at the University of Minho, she has been focusing her research and intervention in the family context, namely in the field of motherhood and fatherhood, parenting and coparenting, transition to parenthood and divorce, parent-infant relationships, maternal and paternal perinatal depression and infant development and psychopathology.
As the principal investigator of several research projects funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and Fundação Bial, she has been exploring the processes associated with normative and non-normative developmental trajectories, in the family context. Within a developmental psychopathology framework, biological and psychological dimensions are conceptualized as synergic processes, and associated with children, adolescents, and adults’ psychological adjustment to different developmental/family transitions. A special emphasis in producing relevant concepts and empirical results to clinical application is also present in diverse psychological intervention projects, namely in the field of perinatal depression at the Centro Materno-Infantil do Norte (Porto), and in the field of divorce, with parents and children, at the Psychology outpatient unit of the University of Minho Psychology Association.
