Luisa Saavedra, PhD in psychology, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology, School of Psychology, University of Minho. She has taught and investigated issues concerning the intersection of gender with other social categories, since 1996. that conduct people to crime and social exclusion. Particularly, her research has taken for guiding principles the feminist perspective of intersectionality and critical criminology. More recently, she has been involved in teaching and researching in Criminal Psychology grounded in Critical criminology in connection with feminist perspective. Based on these supports she aims to comprehend how men and women offenders are constructed by criminal law and media (mentally ill, violent, perverse, and emotionally disturbed); the role of psychological discourse in criminal Law; the experiences of these perpetrators before and during incarceration, namely women and specially mothers; and public opinion about crime and sentences as well as stigmatized people and targeted by structural violence
