João Lopes is an Associate Professor of the Apllied Psychology Department at the School of Psychology - Universtity of Minho. Since 1987 through 1995 he was a professor at the School of Education of the Polithecnic Institute of O'Porto. Since then he is a professor at the University of Minho. He's main areas of interest and research are: Leaarning Problems, Behavior Problems, Teaching problems, Classroom organization and Management, Teaching of Reading and Writing and Child Maltreatment.

April 2015 -… President of the Scientific and Pedagogical Council of Teachers’ Inservice Training (CCPFCP) The CCPFCP is the national board that credits teachers’ in-service training, including university masters education designed as post-graduated teacher education programs and courses.

2014 - …Member of the Board of the IAVE (Institute of Educational Evaluation). IAVE is the board that develops the national examination tests for students in the Portuguese public education system, from 4th through 12th grade. IAVE is also responsible for the adaptation of the Portuguese national testes for PISA, TIMSS, TALIS, etc.
